Pueri Cantores are witnesses of The Gospel
The 8th Letter before the 35th International Congress of Pueri Cantores,
Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the beginning of the Year for Priests
Kraków, 19 June 2009

If someone wants to be a witness of the Gospel, an instrument of God’s Peace, they must act as children of light. They must carry in themselves the light which comes from God. What does it mean for us, Pueri Cantores? It means that in our thoughts, words and deeds we are supposed to be consistent with the Christian dogma. We do not choose Jesus for a moment but for the whole life. He has also chosen us and He is with forever, for quite often does He carry us on His shoulders when we cannot walk on our own. The ways of our lives are bumpy and difficult, but this is He who is with us always. And when we grow feeble we can hear the words: My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness (2 Cor 12:9). We have most probably reached so called “apex” of our preparation for the Congress in Stockholm. The music we are going to perform has certainly been arranged. Now it is the time to prepare our hearts for God’s Grace to act in us. It is the time to prepare our souls for God’s acting in us and through us. If our hearts accuse us, if they are “dirty” we should purify them in the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation so as to make the receiving of Christ, during the international holy masses and the evening mass to unite us with Him in the Holy Communion, more fruitful. John Paul II said to the young these words: you yourselves do not even know how beautiful you are when you are within the range of God’s word and the Eucharist. You don’t even know how beautiful you are when you are close to Christ, to our Master, and when you try to live in His scarifying grace. Do you think that these words are still relevant today? I believe that they still apply to us. If we want to be instruments in God’s hands in such a vital issue which Christian unity undoubtedly is, we should aim at unity in ourselves. The unity of our thoughts, words, deeds and choices. Simply speaking, unity begins in each of us. The Sacraments of Reconciliation and of the Eucharist are very helpful in it, for when we receive them we can find the beauty of God in ourselves. God has left His trace in us, in our hearts and conscience; let us discover it and carry as the most precious gift. Our music, our commitment in liturgy help us to achieve this as well. Let us be the witnesses of the Gospel. Let us open our hearts to God’s grace! And to finish I want to say one more thing. Today His Holy See Benedict XVI has solemnly inaugurated The Year for Priests and I would like to ask you for prayer for me and for all the priests of our Pueri Cantores family so as we would become clear signs of the Good Shepherd among you all. In His letter to the priesthood the Pope wrote: Our faith in the Divine Master gives us the strength to look to the future with confidence. Dear priests, Christ is counting on you. In the footsteps of the Curé of Ars, let yourselves be enthralled by him. In this way you too will be, for the world in our time, heralds of hope, reconciliation and peace! Please, may the prayers for your shepherds not falter; may they be made also for the future workers of Lord’s vineyard, maybe for some of you. I remember you in my daily prayers.
