Gifts of Jesus Christ: Holy Orders and Eucharist
Deus Caritas est XXXVI International Congress of Pueri Cantores, Rome 2010/11

Dear Pueri Cantores, Little Messengers of Beauty,
Dear Conductors and Presidents of all FIPC Choirs,
Dear all responsible for our family worldwide,

Today, on this special day which commemorates establishing the Sacraments of Holy Orders and Eucharist, I am facing you with my open heart. For I want to share this joy of which our Pueri Cantores is becoming a part.

This remembrance of the Holy Orders and the Eucharist is especially important in the light of Year of Priest now running in the Common Church. It reminds us of the vocation and duties of every priest. It is a priest who by acting in persona Christi serves us in the name of God Himself. The priest who strengthens others on their way towards sanctity. Who performs the mission of a good shepherd, who seeks every lost sheep. Who deepens our faith and hope, and kindles our love towards God. Who evangelizes the whole world, fulfilling the emissary mission Jesus Christ entrusted him with. Today we are standing in front of all priests who served or are still serving our choirs, and we want to tell them how grateful we are for their work. For we desire our further spiritual development, so much necessary for us. And this is priests who help us in aiming at it. So today we are also praying for new priestly vocations in our Pueri Cantores community. The harvest in plentiful, but the labourers are few, thus we pray to the Lord of the harvest so that He would send out His labourers into His harvest: Lord, send out Your labourers into the vineyard, so that the whole world would believe in the True Gospel.

This time which is about to start, The Holy Triduum, is the most sacred time of the entire liturgical year. We, Pueri Cantores, who preach the Gospel of the Resurrection and who are like Alleluia in liturgy – through beautiful and faith-filled musical pieces to help ourselves and others pray – through our life attitude, through our vocation, we declare our support for Jesus Christ. Our life of faith, constantly deepened, is a fundament upon which we build our future. Easter, with its greatest mystery and with its miracle of all miracles to be repeated again, that is, the Resurrection of Jesus, gives the sense to all actions, vocations and daily chores. It gives sense to our care for the beauty of liturgy, its music and to God’s beauty we care for in ourselves. As St. Augustine used to say: sing unto the Lord a new song, sing unto Him beautifully … a new man must sing a new song. We are new people, reformed by this mystery of Resurrection. For He broke down hell, sin and Satan in our lives. Therefore we should constantly rise from dead in a spiritual way. We should rise from our sins so that to live in freedom as God’s children.

I would also take this opportunity to share with you the great joy which is like breaking the news of a newly born man, like the first rays of the sun, like the first traces of spring. This year, at the beginning of February, J.M. Torrents and I visited church musicians in Mexico. We participated in The Congress of Liturgical Music there. We introduced ourselves, presenting the Pueri Cantores organisation, our ideals we aim to reach. And we found new supporters of our common idea. It looks it is a matter of time that our family will be joined by a new Federation in Mexico. I believe this is the good news that our family is going to educate more extendedly through Christian values and beautiful music also in American Church. We are already actively present in Canada, USA and Brazil, and I reckon now is the time to start operating in other American countries. Hence my request to the whole American family for propagating the ideas of Pueri Cantores on both continents. It is you now on whom so much depends! Only today do I ask all Pueri Cantores to pray for our new brothers and sisters who are going to join our community.

There is also another thing I would like to let you observe. We are making intensive arrangements for the XXXVI International Congress to be convened in Rome after Christmas 2010. This time our community is going to give the attention to the magnitude of God who is love. Deus Caritas est is to be the motto of this congress. This event is going to become a special prayer and the occasion to deepen our Eucharistic piety, under the guidance of our Patron Saint Dominic Savio. Today I want to break this happy news that our community has received the holy relics of this Pueri Cantores Patron. The solemn act of their delivery will take place at the inauguration of the Congress in Rome. Let me ask you to prepare for it not only musically, but also in your spirit and heart, as you splendidly did for the previous congresses. This Congress will be exceptional through its focus on the mystery of Eucharist and the meeting with Holy Father Benedict XVI. May we prepare well for experiencing, like before, a great joy and a fresh waft of the Church which lives in Pueri Cantores.

May the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and the whole Easter Season be the time of your unceasing joy and Alleluia singing, both in liturgy and in your everyday life.

Let us be united with common prayers and ideas.
